Mining Field

Tomb Of The Titan

The forges of Grom were hungry. People were doing everything they could to feed them, hunting for the deepest veins of ore to fuel their expansion, and so news spread fast when the largest copper vein ever found became unoccupied. Yet there was no immediate rush to claim it, for the sole survivor to return of the fifteen who found it told a tale of blood, of screams, and of claws in the dark.

It had been several centuries since the war with the monsters. The wheel of time gradually crushed people’s memories, and there were few left to remember what they had known at their peak. The remnants of civilization were spread out by the end of the war; isolated ruins, filled with survivors hiding behind any unbroken wall they could find. There was little time to try and reclaim what once was.

That was how they had started. Now they were spreading out, beating back the wild woods and establishing new settlements on the bones of the old, even establishing some safe roads where possible. Of course, nature does not give up its secrets easily, and many had assumed those lost in the dark to have been taken by unknown beasts, but many minds changed when they discovered the monolith.

Twelve feet tall and dedicated to the Seer Alera, it was built of a material whose creation had been lost to time. All manner of hideous creature had been carved into its impossibly hard exterior. More unsettling than that, though, was the prophecy carved into its side.

Sand and stone and bog and forest deep

And even grassland lord in strongest keep

Shall rue hand from unbidden violence sweep

As monsters dreadful fall under the reign

Of long forgotten wrothful Titanbane

Whether they believed the prophecy or not, people wanted that ore. Some set out on a quest to find a new way to seal the monsters, hoping to discover the oracle of Atlas as they did for Andavos. Others started building alliances between kingdoms, sharing and exploring new weapons and magic, hoping to be ready for battle before a possible second war. Religious leaders across the continent took the stance that the monsters were dangerous beasts, but the priests of Geth, lord of the mountain, were particularly adamant that the monsters be rooted out and slain, one by one, in tribute to The Inferno, and would do battle with any, even their own kin, who got in the way.

The old tales told of eleven thousand immortal monsters sealed away, but the rumours now held that monsters were growing in number under the rule of a shadowy figure, and frontier towns grew more dangerous every day, with farmers reporting meat taken in the dead of night. With tensions rising, everyone is now wondering: is war inevitable?
